FunFam 10: 2-isopropylmalate synthase

There are 3 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
2-isopropylmalate synthase. [EC: 2.3.3.13]
Acetyl-CoA + 3-methyl-2-oxobutanoate + H(2)O = (2S)-2-isopropylmalate + CoA.
  • Formerly EC 4.1.3.12.

Methylthioalkylmalate synthase. [EC: 2.3.3.17]
An omega-(methylthio)-2-oxoalkanoate + acetyl-CoA + H(2)O = a 2-(omega- methylthio)alkylmalate + CoA.
  • The enzyme, characterized from the plant Arabidopsis thaliana, is involved in the L-methionine side-chain elongation pathway, forming substrates for the biosynthesis of aliphatic glucosinolates.
  • Two forms are known - MAM1 catalyzes only only the first two rounds of methionine chain elongation, while MAM3 catalyzes all six cycles, up to formation of L-hexahomomethionine.

Homocitrate synthase. [EC: 2.3.3.14]
Acetyl-CoA + H(2)O + 2-oxoglutarate = (R)-2-hydroxybutane-1,2,4- tricarboxylate + CoA.
  • Belongs in the alpha-aminoadipate pathway of lysine synthesis, along with EC 4.2.1.36.
  • Also acts with oxaloacetate as substrate, but more slowly.
  • Formerly EC 4.1.3.21.
