The enzyme shows specific recognition of a C-terminal tripeptide, Xaa- Yaa-Zaa, in which Xaa is preferably Ala or Leu, Yaa is preferably Ala or Tyr, and Zaa is preferably Ala, but then cleaves at a variable distance from the C-terminus.
