FunFam 957: Glucose 1-dehydrogenase

There are 5 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Glucose 1-dehydrogenase (NAD(P)(+)). [EC: 1.1.1.47]
D-glucose + NAD(P)(+) = D-glucono-1,5-lactone + NAD(P)H.
  • This enzyme has similar activity with either NAD(+) or NADP(+).
  • Cf. EC 1.1.1.118 and EC 1.1.1.119.

Galactose 1-dehydrogenase (NADP(+)). [EC: 1.1.1.120]
D-galactose + NADP(+) = D-galactono-1,5-lactone + NADPH.
  • Also acts on L-arabinose, 6-deoxy- and 2-deoxy-D-galactose.

D-galactose 1-dehydrogenase. [EC: 1.1.1.48]
D-galactose + NAD(+) = D-galactono-1,4-lactone + NADH.
  • This enzyme is part of the De Ley-Doudoroff pathway, which is used by some bacteria during growth on D-galactose.

Aldose 1-dehydrogenase (NAD(P)(+)). [EC: 1.1.1.359]
An aldopyranose + NAD(P)(+) = an aldono-1,5-lactone + NAD(P)H.
  • The enzyme from the archaeon Sulfolobus solfataricus shows broad specificity toward aldoses (D-glucose, D-galactose, D-xylose, L-arabinose, 6-deoxy-D-glucose, D-fucose) and can utilize NAD(+) and NADP(+) with similar catalytic efficiency.
  • It is involved in aldose catabolism via the branched variant of the Entner-Doudoroff pathway.

Glucose/galactose 1-dehydrogenase. [EC: 1.1.1.360]
(1) D-glucopyranose + NADP(+) = D-glucono-1,5-lactone + NADPH. (2) D-galactopyranose + NADP(+) = D-galactono-1,5-lactone + NADPH.
  • The enzyme from the archaeon Picrophilus torridus is involved in glucose and galactose catabolism via the nonphosphorylative variant of the Entner-Doudoroff pathway.
  • It shows 20-fold higher activity with NADP(+) compared to NAD(+).
  • The oxidation of D-glucose and D-galactose is catalyzed at a comparable rate (cf. EC 1.1.1.119 and EC 1.1.1.120).
