Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Stc1 domain

This superfamily contains the Stc1 domain, which contains 8 conserved cysteine residues that may bind to zinc. In S. pombe this protein acts as a protein linker which links the chromatin modifying CLRC complex to RNAi by tethering it to the RITS complex. The region is reported as a LIM domain here, but has a slightly different arrangement of its CxxC pairs from the Pfam LIM domain PFAM:PF00412, distinguished by a lack of preferred relative orientation of the two zinc fingers. PMID:20211136,PMID:23613586. The tandem zinc-finger structure is involved in binding Ago1, whereas the nonconserved C-terminal region mediates association with CLRC.
