".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Ncd80 complex, Spc24 subunit

The name has been assigned the fact that the representative domain for this superfamily maps extremely well to a Pfam domain which belongs to a family known as Spc24. According to the literature PMID:18455984 Spc24 is one of the four subunits of the Ndc80 complex, an essential component of kinetochores since it comprises a point of direct contact between kinetochores and microtubules that make up the mitotic spindle and therefore has a key role in chromosome segregation.

There seemed to be an incongruity in the PDBe sequence viewer which showed how in both Pfam and InterPro this domain corresponds to Spc25, another subunit of the Ndc80 complex. Spc24 render more appropriate since the publication associated with the given PDB which contains domains in this superfamily clearly shows that this representative domain corresponds to Spc24.
