The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Ribosomal Protein S4 Delta 41; Chain A, domain 1
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Ribosomal protein S4/S9, N-terminal domain

This superfamily entry includes the N-terminal domain of the ribosomal protein S4 found in the small (30S) ribosomal subunit. S4 is known to bind directly to 16S ribosomal RNA. The crystal structure of a bacterial S4 protein revealed a two domain molecule. The N-terminal domain is composed of four helices, organised in a discontinuous sequence. PFAM:PF00163, INTERPRO:IPR001912
