FunFam 69881: Lipid II:glycine glycyltransferase

There are 1 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Lipid II:glycine glycyltransferase. [EC: 2.3.2.16]
MurNAc-L-Ala-D-isoglutaminyl-L-Lys-D-Ala-D-Ala-diphospho-ditrans,octacis- undecaprenyl-GlcNAc + glycyl-tRNA(Gly) = MurNAc-L-Ala-D-isoglutaminyl-L- Lys-(N(6)-Gly)-D-Ala-D-Ala-diphospho-ditrans,octacis-undecaprenyl-GlcNAc + tRNA(Gly).
  • This enzyme from Staphylococcus aureus catalyzes the transfer of glycine from a charged tRNA to MurNAc-L-Ala-D-isoglutaminyl-L-Lys-D- Ala-D-Ala-diphosphoundecaprenyl-GlcNAc (lipid II), attaching it to the N(6) of the L-lysine at position 3 of the pentapeptide.
  • This is the first step in the synthesis of the pentaglycine interpeptide bridge that is used in S.aureus for the crosslinking of different glycan strands to each other.
  • Four additional glycine residues are subsequently attached by EC 2.3.2.17 (FemA) and EC 2.3.2.18 (FemB).
