FunFam 290852: Zinc-containing alcohol dehydrogenase superfamily

There are 6 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Alcohol dehydrogenase. [EC: 1.1.1.1]
(1) An alcohol + NAD(+) = an aldehyde or ketone + NADH. (2) A secondary alcohol + NAD(+) = a ketone + NADH.
  • Acts on primary or secondary alcohols or hemi-acetals with very broad specificity; however the enzyme oxidizes methanol much more poorly than ethanol.
  • The animal, but not the yeast, enzyme acts also on cyclic secondary alcohols.

Methylglyoxal reductase (NADH). [EC: 1.1.1.78]
(R)-lactaldehyde + NAD(+) = 2-oxopropanal + NADH.
  • This mammalian enzyme differs from the yeast enzyme, EC 1.1.1.283, by its coenzyme requirement, reaction direction, and enantiomeric preference.

Mannitol-1-phosphate 5-dehydrogenase. [EC: 1.1.1.17]
D-mannitol 1-phosphate + NAD(+) = D-fructose 6-phosphate + NADH.
    4 B0D2D8 B0D2D8 B0DBA0 B0DBA0
    Alcohol dehydrogenase (NADP(+)). [EC: 1.1.1.2]
    An alcohol + NADP(+) = an aldehyde + NADPH.
    • Some members of this group oxidize only primary alcohols; others act also on secondary alcohols.
    • May be identical with EC 1.1.1.19, EC 1.1.1.33 and EC 1.1.1.55.
    • Re-specific with respect to NADPH.

    DNA helicase. [EC: 3.6.4.12]
    ATP + H(2)O = ADP + phosphate.
    • DNA helicases utilize the energy from ATP hydrolysis to unwind double-stranded DNA.
    • Some of them unwind duplex DNA with a 3' to 5' polarity (1,3,5,8), other show 5' to 3' polarity (10,11,12,13) or unwind DNA in both directions (14,15).
    • Some helicases unwind DNA as well as RNA (4,9).
    • May be identical with EC 3.6.4.13 (RNA helicase).
    2 A0A0F4YWB3 A0A0F4YWB3
    Histone acetyltransferase. [EC: 2.3.1.48]
    Acetyl-CoA + [protein]-L-lysine = CoA + [protein]-N(6)-acetyl-L-lysine.
    • A group of enzymes acetylating histones.
    • Several of the enzymes can also acetylate lysines in other proteins.
