FunFam 115227: Chlorophyllase type 0

There are 1 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Chlorophyllase. [EC: 3.1.1.14]
Chlorophyll + H(2)O = phytol + chlorophyllide.
  • Chlorophyllase has been found in higher plants, diatoms, and in the green algae Chlorella.
  • Forms part of the chlorophyll degradation pathway and is thought to take part in de-greening processes such as fruit ripening, leaf senescence and flowering, as well as in the turnover and homeostasis of chlorophyll.
  • Acts preferentially on chlorophyll a but will also accept chlorophyll b and pheophytins as substrates.
  • Ethylene and methyl jasmonate, which are known to accelerate senescence in many species, can enhance the activity of the hormone- inducible form of this enzyme.
