FunFam 136027: N2,N2-dimethylguanosine tRNA methyltransferase

There are 2 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
TRNA (guanine(26)-N(2))-dimethyltransferase. [EC: 2.1.1.216]
2 S-adenosyl-L-methionine + guanine(26) in tRNA = 2 S-adenosyl-L- homocysteine + N(2)-dimethylguanine(26) in tRNA.
  • The enzyme dissociates from its tRNA substrate between the two consecutive methylation reactions.
  • In contrast to EC 2.1.1.215, this enzyme does not catalyze the methylation of guanine(27) in tRNA.
  • Formerly EC 2.1.1.32.

TRNA (guanine(26)-N(2)/guanine(27)-N(2))-dimethyltransferase. [EC: 2.1.1.215]
4 S-adenosyl-L-methionine + guanine(26)/guanine(27) in tRNA = 4 S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + N(2)-dimethylguanine(26)/N(2)- dimethylguanine(27) in tRNA.
  • The enzyme from Aquifex aeolicus is similar to the TRM1 methyltransferases of archaea and eukarya (see EC 2.1.1.216).
  • However, it catalyzes the double methylation of guanines at both positions 26 and 27 of tRNA.
  • Formerly EC 2.1.1.32.
