FunFam 135832: Malonyl-[acyl-carrier protein] O-methyltransferase

There are 4 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Malonyl-[acyl-carrier protein] O-methyltransferase. [EC: 2.1.1.197]
S-adenosyl-L-methionine + malonyl-[acyl-carrier protein] = S-adenosyl-L- homocysteine + malonyl-[acyl-carrier protein] methyl ester.
  • Involved in an early step of biotin biosynthesis in Gram-negative bacteria.
  • This enzyme catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group to the omega- carboxyl group of malonyl-[acyl-carrier protein] forming a methyl ester.
  • The methyl ester is recognized by the fatty acid synthetic enzymes, which process it via the fatty acid elongation cycle to give pimelyl- [acyl-carrier-protein] methyl ester.
  • While the enzyme can also accept malonyl-CoA, it has a much higher activity with malonyl-[acyl-carrier protein].

Carboxylesterase. [EC: 3.1.1.1]
A carboxylic ester + H(2)O = an alcohol + a carboxylate.
  • Wide specificity; also hydrolyzes vitamin A esters.
  • The enzymes from microsomes also catalyze the reactions of EC 3.1.1.2, EC 3.1.1.5, EC 3.1.1.6, EC 3.1.1.23, EC 3.1.1.28, EC 3.1.2.2, EC 3.5.1.4, and EC 3.5.1.13.
  • Formerly EC 3.1.1.12.

8-amino-7-oxononanoate synthase. [EC: 2.3.1.47]
Pimeloyl-[acyl-carrier protein] + L-alanine = 8-amino-7-oxononanoate + CO(2) + holo-[acyl-carrier protein].
  • The enzyme catalyzes the decarboxylative condensation of L-alanine and pimeloyl-[acyl-carrier protein], a key step in the pathway for biotin biosynthesis.
  • Pimeloyl-CoA can be used with lower efficiency.
1 A0A0H6KE02
Dethiobiotin synthase. [EC: 6.3.3.3]
ATP + 7,8-diaminononanoate + CO(2) = ADP + phosphate + dethiobiotin.
  • CTP has half the activity of ATP.
