Functional Families
Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.
Superfamily: K homology (KH) domain
This entry represents the KH domain, which is an RNA-binding domain important for post-translational activities DOI:10.1016/B978-0-12-809633-8.20662-6. A conserved glycine-rich GXXG motif is characteristic of the majority of KH domains. The KH domain contains three alpha-helices and a three-stranded anti-parallel beta-sheet PMID:27166440. There are two different versions of the KH motif, type I (commonly found in eukaryotic proteins) and type II (commonly found in prokaryotic proteins) PMID:18422648. The prokaryotic KH domain has been found in a number of proteins, including the N-terminal domain of the S3 ribosomal protein PMID:11014182, the C-terminal domain of Era GTPase PMID:10411886 and the two C-terminal domains of the NusA transcription factor PMID:11430821.
