Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Resistin head domain

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of the head domain of resistin, the founding member of the resistin-like molecule (RELM) hormone family, which is selectively secreted from adipocytes and induces liver-specific antagonism of insulin action. Resistin is a two domain protein with each protomer being composed of a disulfide rich beta-sandwich C terminal head domain linked to an N terminal helical tail. These protomers assemble to form trimer-dimer hexamers PMID:15155948.
