Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Nsp8 replicase, head domain

This superfamily consists of 3 alpha helices and 7 beta strands.

The 7 beta strands form an open barrel, with 2 anti-parallel beta strands perpendicular to the barrel (orthogonally). Within Nsp8I/II, this domain has a tight hydrophobic core.

In nature, Nsp8I and Nsp8II interact with Nsp7 to form two distinct heterodimers (D1: Nsp8I/Nsp7 and D2: Nsp8II/Nsp7). Which ultimately form a hexadecameric supercomplex.
