Superfamily: Y-family DNA polymerase, catalytic domain, fingers subdomain

Polymerases belonging to the Y family are the main enzymes that help cells tolerate DNA damage, by allowing DNA synthesis to continue across from lesions that stall replicative polymerases PMID:23245850. They are divided into six major groups based on amino acid sequence. They are represented by E. coli pol IV (known as DinB) and pol V (of which UmuC is the catalytic subunit) and four human enzymes, pol eta, iota, kappa, and Rev1 PMID:24716551. The Y-family polymerases contain two domains that are required for full polymerase activity: an N-terminal catalytic polymerase domain (comprised of fingers, palm, and thumb subdomains); and a C-terminal "little fingers" or polymerase-associated domain (LF/PAD) that assists with binding DNA PMID:23245850. This entry represents the fingers domain which exhibits an alpha/beta fold.
