FunFam 1253: Pyrrolysine--tRNA ligase

There are 1 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Pyrrolysine--tRNA(Pyl) ligase. [EC: 6.1.1.26]
ATP + L-pyrrolysine + tRNA(Pyl) = AMP + diphosphate + L-pyrrolysyl- tRNA(Pyl).
  • In organisms such as Methanosarcina barkeri that incorporate the modified amino acid pyrrolysine (Pyl) into certain methylamine methyltransferases, an unusual tRNA(Pyl), with a CUA anticodon, can be charged directly with pyrrolysine by this class II aminoacyl- -tRNA ligase.
  • Specific for pyrrolysine as substrate as it cannot be replaced by lysine or any of the other natural amino acids.
