FunFam 1: Cytochrome P450, family 2

There are 6 EC terms in this cluster

Please note: EC annotations are assigned to the full protein sequence rather than individual protein domains. Since a given protein can contain multiple domains, it is possible that some of the annotations below come from additional domains that occur in the same protein, but have been classified elsewhere in CATH.

Note: The search results have been sorted with the annotations that are found most frequently at the top of the list. The results can be filtered by typing text into the search box at the top of the table.

EC Term Annotations Evidence
Unspecific monooxygenase. [EC: 1.14.14.1]
RH + [reduced NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + O(2) = ROH + [oxidized NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + H(2)O.
  • Acts on a wide range of substrates including many xenobiotics, steroids, fatty acids, vitamins and prostaglandins; reactions catalyzed include hydroxylation, epoxidation, N-oxidation, sulfooxidation, N-, S- and O-dealkylations, desulfation, deamination, and reduction of azo, nitro and N-oxide groups.
  • Together with EC 1.6.2.4, it forms a system in which two reducing equivalents are supplied by NADPH.
  • Some of the reactions attributed to EC 1.14.15.3 belong here.
  • Formerly EC 1.14.1.1, EC 1.14.14.2, EC 1.14.99.8 and EC 1.99.1.1.

4-nitrophenol 2-hydroxylase. [EC: 1.14.13.n7]
4-nitrophenol + NADPH + O(2) = 4-nitrocatechol + NADP(+) + H(2)O.

    (S)-limonene 7-monooxygenase. [EC: 1.14.14.52]
    (S)-limonene + [reduced NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + O(2) = (-)- perillyl alcohol + [oxidized NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + H(2)O.
    • The enzyme, characterized from the plant Perilla frutescens, participates in the biosynthesis of perillyl aldehyde, the major constituent of the essential oil that accumulates in the glandular trichomes of this plant.
    • Some forms of the enzyme also catalyze the oxidation of (-)-perillyl alcohol to (-)-perillyl aldehyde.
    • Formerly EC 1.14.13.49.
    5 P11712 P11712 P33261 S5RV20 S5RV20
    (S)-limonene 6-monooxygenase. [EC: 1.14.14.51]
    (S)-limonene + [reduced NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + O(2) = (-)-trans- carveol + [oxidized NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + H(2)O.
    • The enzyme participates in the biosynthesis of (-)-carvone, which is responsible for the aroma of spearmint.
    • Formerly EC 1.14.13.48.
    5 P11712 P11712 P33261 S5RV20 S5RV20
    (R)-limonene 6-monooxygenase. [EC: 1.14.14.53]
    (+)-(R)-limonene + [reduced NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + O(2) = (+)- trans-carveol + [oxidized NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + H(2)O.
    • The reaction is stereospecific with over 95% yield of (+)-trans- carveol from (R)-limonene.
    • (S)-Limonene, the substrate for EC 1.14.14.51 is not a substrate.
    • Forms part of the carvone biosynthesis pathway in Carum carvi (caraway) seeds.
    • Formerly EC 1.14.13.80.
    5 P11712 P11712 P33261 S5RV20 S5RV20
    Fenbendazole monooxygenase (4'-hydroxylating). [EC: 1.14.14.75]
    Fenbendazole + [reduced NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + O(2) = 4'-hydroxyfenbendazole + [oxidized NADPH--hemoprotein reductase] + H(2)O.
    • CYP2C19 is microsomal cytochrome P450 monooxygenase that catalyzes the hydroxylation of the benzene ring of fenbendazole, a broad- spectrum anthelmintic used against gastrointestinal nematodes and the larval stages of cestodes.
    • This activity is also carried out by CYP2J2.
    • Cf. EC 1.14.14.74.
    • CYP2C19 does not act on albendazole.
