The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was: waiting to be named.

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Pre-mRNA-processing-splicing factor 8 (Prp8), endonuclease domain

The active centre of the spliceosome consists of an intricate network formed by U5, U2 and U6 small nuclear RNAs, and a pre-messenger-RNA substrate. Prp8, a component of the U5 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particle, crosslinks extensively with this RNA catalytic core. This entry represents the endonuclease domain of Prp8 which is composed of five mixed beta-strands flanked by three alpha-helices. It is most similar structurally to the endonuclease domain of the influenza virus polymerase acidic (PA) subunit, although there is very little sequence conservation PMID:23354046.
