The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Capsid protein VP3, domain 1
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Capsid protein VP3, domain 1

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of the N-terminal domain, designated domain 1, of the multifunctional birnavirus protein VP3, involved in virus morphogenesis. VP3 interacts with the structural protein VP2, with the double-stranded RNA genome, and with the virus-encoded, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP), VP1, playing a role in both viral capsid formation, recruitment of VP1 into the capsid and encapsidation of the viral genome. This domain's fold lacks significant homologies with any other protein domains of known structure.
