The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
BEN domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: BEN domain

The name has been chosen based on UniProt-SwissProt entries which are backed by the available structural information of domains which comprise this superfamily. According to the literature, BEN has been shown to be a DNA-binding domain PMID:25561495 whose function is to regulate transcription. Proteins containing BEN domains have been shown to be responsible for the repression of transcription when bound to DNA.
