".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: D-tyrosyl-tRNA(Tyr) deacylase

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of D-tyrosyl-tRNA(Tyr) deacylase (DTD), also known as D-aminoacyl-tRNA deacylase, an editing enzyme that removes D-amino acids from mischarged tRNAs. Structural studies have shown various different modes of D-amino acid recognition by DTDs, suggesting an inherent plasticity that can accommodate all d-amino acids. DTDs are essentially inactive toward L-aa-tRNAs PMID:20007323,PMID:20445234.

This enzymes provide a very accurate proofreading mechanism which enforces high fidelity during translation of the genetic code PMID:261130360.
