Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Nicotinate-nucleotide-dimethylbenzimidazole phosphoribosyltransferase (CobT), large domain

Nicotinate mononucleotide (NaMN):5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole (DMB) phosphoribosyltransferase (CobT) plays a central role in the synthesis of alpha-ribazole-5'-phosphate, an intermediate for the lower ligand of cobalamin PMID:8206834. It is one of the enzymes of the anaerobic pathway of cobalamin biosynthesis, and one of the four proteins involved in the synthesis of the lower ligand and the assembly of the nucleotide loop PMID:12101181,PMID:7592411.

CobT is made up of a large and a small domain. The large domain is built from six strands of a parallel beta-sheet and surrounding alpha-helices PMID:10587435. This entry represents bacterial- and archaeal-type nicotinate-nucleotide-dimethylbenzimidazole phosphoribosyltransferase enzymes involved in dimethylbenzimidazole synthesis, as well as a group of proteins of unknown function.
