Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Sirohaem synthase, central domain

This superfamily entry represents the central domain (domain II) in the sirohaem synthase. This domain starts with a beta-hairpin that pairs with its two-fold symmetrical partner and forms a second 4-stranded antiparallel beta-sheet that stacks with the first from domain I (NAD+-binding Rossman fold), and then it ends with a bent alpha-helix. The central domain has, along with the N-terminal domain of the enzyme, catalytic activity (precorrin-2 dehydrogenase and sirohydrochlorin ferrochelatase), catalysing the biosynthesis of sirohaem.
