The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Serine-tRNA synthetase, tRNA binding domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Serine-tRNA synthetase, tRNA binding domain

Structural domains which comprise this superfamily correspond to the structure of the N-terminal domain of seryl-tRNA synthetase (SerRS), a homodimeric enzyme that belong to class II tRNA synthetases. SerRS catalyses the aminoacylation reaction that charges serine onto its cognate tRNA for protein synthesis. Each monomer is comprised of two domains and the structure representative of this superfamily corresponds to the N-terminal, tRNA binding domain PMID:24095058.
