Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: tRNA(His) guanylyltransferase (Thg1)

All polymerases and transferases catalyse nucleotide addition in the 5' to 3' direction, except the enzyme tRNA(His) guanylyltransferase (Thg1). Thg1 catalyses the highly unusual 3'-5' addition of a single guanine to the 5'-end of tRNAHis. This reaction is an obligatory step in the maturation of this tRNA. This entry represents the structure of Thg1. It is made of a beta-sheet composed of six antiparallel strands flanked by three or four alpha-helices on each side PMID:21059936.
