The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_4_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Pelota, domain A
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Pelota, domain A

Structural domains which comprise this superfamily share the structure of the N-terminal domain of Pelota (DOM34 in yeast), a protein involved in No-go decay (NGD) and non-stop decay (NSD) surveillance mechanisms that target mRNAs on which elongation complexes are stalled. It does so through interaction with Hbs1, a EF1-alpha-related subfamily GTPase PMID:20876129

Pelota is related to EF1-alpha with similar middle and C-terminal domains, but the N-terminal domain of Dom34 is different from that of eRF1. Pelota N-terminal domain, annotated as domain A PMID:20876129 adopts a Sm-fold that is often involved in the recognition of mRNA stem loops or in the recruitment of mRNA degradation machinery PMID:18180287.
