Superfamily: Tubulin Binding Cofactor C, N-terminal domain

Tubulin Binding Cofactor C (TBCC) is a post-chaperonin involved in the folding and assembly of alpha- and beta-tubulin monomers leading to the release of productive tubulin heterodimers ready to polymerise into microtubules. TBCC is found at the centrosome and is implicated in bipolar spindle formation. This chaperonin is organised into three different domains: N-terminal, CARP and C-terminal. The N-terminal comprises a structured coiled coil and a highly dynamic N-terminal region which concentrates 80% of charged and polar residues and is believed to be important in interaction with tubulin. Overall, the N-terminal domain of TBCC is responsible for its interaction with components of the centrosome by its N-terminal domain.
