"
Large T antigen, SV40, domain 3
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Large T antigen, SV40, domain 3

This superfamily is made up of 7 alpha helices, and in the context of SV40, this superfamily is not made up of a contiguous polypeptide chain.

SV40 is made up of domains 1, 2 and 3.

This superfamily makes up domain 3, the only domain which plays no role in the multimerisation to form the hexameric form of large T antigen. Instead, domain 3 plays a role in p53 binding and binding polymerase machinery, evidenced by the protein's inability to bind p53 if certain mutations are introduced into domain 3.
