Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Dynein motor, AAA2 domain, small subdomain

Dyneins are microtubule-based AAA+ motor complexes that power ciliary beating, cell division, cell migration and intracellular transport. The motor domain comprises the AAA+ ring and three additional structural units: the linker, stalk/strut (both of which are major functional units of the heavy chain) and C sequence PMID:22398446 . Each AAA+ domain can be subdivided into a "large" (AAAL) and a five helix bundle or "small" subdomain (AAAS). This entry represents the small subdomain of the AAA2 domain PMID:22426545.
