Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT), thumb domain

Telomerase, a ribonucleoprotein complex, replicates the linear ends of eukaryotic chromosomes, thus taking care of the end of replication problem PMID:17997966. The catalytic subunit of telomerase, TERT, consists of four domains, organised into a ring-like structure. This entry represents the all-helical thumb domain of TERT, which is implicated in DNA binding and processivity PMID:20357774.
