The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_4_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
JmjC domain-containing ribosomal oxygenase (ROX), dimer domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: JmjC domain-containing ribosomal oxygenase (ROX), dimer domain

According to scientific literature, the JmjC domain-containing proteins belong to a large family of oxygenases possessing distinct substrate specificities which are involved in the regulation of different biological processes, such as gene transcription, RNA processing and translation.

Key roles: histone lysine demethylase and ribosomal histidine hydroxylase activity

Representative proteins: MYC-induced nuclear antigen (Mina53), bifunctional lysine-specific demethylase and histidyl-hydroxylase Nucleolar protein 66 (NO66) - catalyse histidine hydroxylation in humans
