According to the literature, members of the structural domains which comprise this superfamily correspond to the structure of GTP cyclohydrolase, also known as ribA, which catalyses the first committed step riboflavin (vitamin b2) biosynthesis (INTERPRO:IPR032677). This domain, being absent in higher eukaryotes, is thought to be a selective antimicrobial drug target PMID:16115872.
