MatP, N-terminal domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: MatP, N-terminal domain

According to the literature, structural domains which comprise this superfamily correspond to the structure of the N-terminal four helix bundle domain of MatP, involved in the condensation of Ter macrodomains (MDs) of bacteria. This domain is annotated in InterPro as a DNA binding domain (INTERPRO:IPR038339). It binds specifically to a Ter MD sequence called matS (Macrodomain Ter sequence) which is found 23 times in E.coli's Ter MD, although this MatP-matS system is found in other types of bacteria as well.
