The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
N2,N2-dimethylguanosine tRNA methyltransferase, C-terminal domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: N2,N2-dimethylguanosine tRNA methyltransferase, C-terminal domain

According to the literature, members of the structural domains which comprise this superfamily correspond to the structure of the C-terminus of N2,N2-dimethylguanosine tRNA methyltransferase (Trm1). This enzyme catalyses the formation of N2,N2-dimethylguanine at position 26 in tRNA. This C-terminal domain is characterised by the presence zinc-cysteine cluster where a zinc atom is bound to four cysteine residues and functions as a structural element that holds the tRNA-binding site between the N- and C-terminal domains PMID:18789948.
