Type II secretion system (T2SS), domain F
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Type II secretion system (T2SS), domain F

This superfamily consists of bacterial proteins involved in a general secretion pathway (GSP) for the export of proteins (also called the type II pathway) PMID:8438237. These are proteins of about 400 amino acids that are highly hydrophobic and which are thought to be integral protein of the inner membrane. This domain consists of a bundle of six anti-parallel helices and has a novel fold PMID:19324092. Proteins with this domain form a platform for the type II secretion machinery, as well as the type IV pili and the archaeal flagellae PMID:11266368.

According to Pfam, the original family covered both the regions found by the current model. The splitting of the family has allowed the related FlaJ_arch (archaeal FlaJ family) to be merged with it.
