Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Ribosomal protein S4, central domain

This superfamily entry represents the central domain from the ribosomal protein S4, found in the small ribosomal subunit 30S/40S. Eukaryotic and archaeal ribosomal proteins can be grouped on the basis of sequence similarities. One of these families includes yeast S7 (YS6); archaeal S4e; and mammalian and plant cytoplasmic S4 PMID:2124517. Two highly similar isoforms of mammalian S4 exist, one coded by a gene on chromosome Y, and the other on chromosome X.
