Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: TFIID subunit TAF5, NTD2 domain

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of the second N-terminal domain (NTD2) of the transcription factor TFIID. It is an all-alpha domain associated with the WD40 helical bundle within the TAF5 subunit and it shares distant structural homology to RNA polymerase II CTD interacting factors. It contains several conserved clefts that are likely to be critical for TFIID complex assembly. The TAF5 subunit is present twice in the TFIID complex and is critical for the function and assembly of the complex, and the NTD2 and N-terminal domains are crucial for homodimerisation PMID:17227857.
