This superfamily includes the N-terminal domain of type II secretion system protein E. Gram-negative bacteria use type II secretion systems for the transport of virulence factors and hydrolytic enzymes through the outer membrane. Proteins in this superfamily are typically involved in Type IV pilus biogenesis (e.g. Q9X4G8), though some are involved in other processes; for instance aggregation in Myxococcus xanthus (e.g. Q9RF11) PMID:11073903. The N-terminal domain has an alpha+beta conformation consisting of three alpha-helices and three beta-strands.
