Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: YebF/Colicin-M immunity protein

This superfamily includes YebF-like proteins as well as colicin immunity proteins, such as cmi, the colicin M immunity protein PMID:16369539. This domain is found in bacteria, and is approximately 80 amino acids in length. The alignment contains two conserved cysteine residues that form a disulphide bond in the solved structure PMID:21037007.

Cmi protects cells from the colicin M toxin, though the mechanism by which it achieves this is not known PMID:2820942. The protein forms an alpha-beta fold and contains a disulphide bond that is essential for function PMID:21037007. Although the function of YbeF is not known, it is secreted by E. coli, and contains the two conserved cysteine residues responsible for the disulphide bond in Cmi PMID:16369539.
