The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Polyketide synthase dehydratase
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Polyketide synthase dehydratase

According to the literature, structural domains which comprise this superfamily correspond to the structure of the dehydratase (DH) in polyketide synthases, which are in fact megasynthases comprised of different modules. Each module is composed of several enzymes which together act a ketide unit to the growing polyketide chain. DH is involved in the generation, through an elimination reaction, a double bond in this process PMID:18952099

The structure of this DH domain is described as a hotdog fold with the alpha-helices representing the sausages and the beta-sheet representing the bun.
