The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Acyl-CoA thioester hydrolase/BAAT N-terminal domain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Acyl-CoA thioester hydrolase/BAAT N-terminal domain

Structural domains comprising this superfamily share the structure of the N-terminal region of the acyl-CoA thioester hydrolase and bile acid-CoA:amino acid N-acetyltransferase (BAAT) PMID:11673457. This region is not thought to contain the active site of either enzyme. Thioesterase isoforms have been identified in peroxisomes, cytoplasm and mitochondria, and are likely to have distinct functions in lipid metabolism PMID:10567408.
