The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
LuxQ periplasmic domain, C-terminal subdomain
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: LuxQ periplasmic domain, C-terminal subdomain

Structural domains that comprise this superfamily share the structure of the N-terminus of the periplasmic domain in LuxQ, a sensor histidine kinase involved in quorum sensing in the marine bacterium Vibrio harveyi. Quorum sensing is process of bacterial cell-cell communication driven by secreted signaling molecules called autoinducers such as AI-2. The receptor for this autoinducer is LuxPQ, formed as a result of the association between LuxQ and LuxP, a periplasmic binding protein, through the cited periplasmic domain of LuxQ.
