Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: CRISPR-associated protein Cse2

Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) are a family of DNA direct repeats separated by regularly sized non-repetitive spacer sequences that are found in most bacterial and archaeal genomes PMID:17442114. The CRISPR-associated (Cas) proteins are encoded in the vicinity of the CRISPRs. The CRISPR systems (CRISPRs and Cas proteins) are classified into several subtypes, and each subtype contains several different subtype specific cas genes. It was shown that one of the Cas proteins, Cse2, comprises a novel family of endoribonucleases, and cleaves single-stranded RNAs preferentially within U-rich regions PMID:18798563 .

This entry represents Cse2 which is made up of nine alpha-helices.
