The name of this superfamily has been modified since the most recent official CATH+ release (v4_3_0). At the point of the last release, this superfamily was named:

"
Plasmid replication protein
".

Functional Families

Overview of the Structural Clusters (SC) and Functional Families within this CATH Superfamily. Clusters with a representative structure are represented by a filled circle.

Superfamily: Plasmid replication protein

RepB is one of the most representative proteins in the superfamily. It is a rolling-circle replication (RCR) initiation protein and provides endonuclease activity. It is generally found as hexamer, in contrast to other RCR proteins that are purified as monomers or dimers. Its monomer unit can be viewed as the cartoon representation of the domain in chain. The name of the superfamily was established on the abundance of plasmid replication protein key-terms in SwissProt and UniProt, along with the cited scientific literature.
